APPEARANCE AND BODY PERCEPTION1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?Sync is around 5'2-3". The body he inherited from the original Ion is slender, almost fragile looking at first glance. He however was the strongest of the replicas, and it shows with how much that originally frail body has turned into a lethal weapon. Without Ion's illness holding him back, he's trained to the point where it's obvious when not hidden by clothing. Yet there's still a degree of that slenderness left, because someone all muscle can't move as fast, and Sync is definitely fast. If he wasn't so ridiculously frightening, one might describe it as a kind of grace.
2. How old is he?Physically around fifteen. Mentally is all over the place, as replicas don't learn in the same manner that normal humans do. Sometimes he acts normally, sometimes he acts like his true age. Which is three.
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well, or does he slouch? It cannot scream CONFIDENCE any louder than it already does. He holds himself well, with full knowledge that he can beat the shit of out most people and creatures on the planet. Arrogance, in a sense, but mostly just ridiculously confident and aware of his abilities and status. He might consider himself trash, but it doesn't mean that he isn't going to show everyone that even trash has the ability to kick ass when needed.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?Ridiculously fit. He's near-constantly training, or fighting, or on the move to somewhere in a world where walking a lot can be expected. Unlike his original and most of the other replicas, he doesn't have Ion's crippling illness.
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid? His movements are fluid, the mark of a melee fighter. They can almost be considered graceful, and can definitely be considered acrobatic, given how he moves in combat.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror? You could definitely call him pretty, though not to his face unless you like being punched through the nearest wall. He himself doesn't think in that kind of way, and since he hates himself...
7. Describe his complexion: dark, light, clear, scarred?Normal skin tone, very slight tan given he is outside a lot but nothing much. He has no obvious scarring, but there's probably one or two burn marks from Mount Zaleho.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.Sync's hair is a deep shade of green. It's one of the few colours that does not appear in Auldrant's normal colour schemes at all, aside from Ion and his replicas, so it's extremely unusual. He deliberately keeps it styled so that it's swept up and to one side, to differentiate himself from the other Ion replicas. It's probably somewhat coarse from his uncaring attitude towards it, aside from the style.
9. What color are his eyes?Green.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features? He has a large, yellow-coloured glyph that's been seared into his skin on his chest. It's this which allows him to use the Seventh Fonon and Daathic Fonic Artes to the degree he does, otherwise his abilities with both would be severely lacking. It can only do so much though, and tends to hurt like a bitch when over-used, especially with his Mystic Arte.
11. What are his chief tension centers?Back and shoulders.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?Pretty much entirely the same. Always whatever uniform he happens to be assigned at the time. No variations or anything.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them? Most of his clothing is specially made for him. It fits but doesn't restrict him in the melee combat he specialises in. He's comfortable in it, since it works.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences? What is free time? No really, he doesn't change what he wears because he is always on the job.
15. You knew it was coming: what kind of underwear does he wear, if any?Get out.>> top
SPEECH1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?Sync deliberately deepens his voice, due to the fact when he doesn't, he sounds almost identical to Ion. His default is somewhere on the lighter side, where it can be mistaken for a girl's.
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?Evenly and easily at a normal pace. He tends to get louder and harsher when angered.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?No verbal ticks. His accent is pretty much that of Daath, since that's the main town he's lived in, though it's not super strong.
4. What language(s) does he speak and with how much fluency?Auldrant's common language, which is known as the fonic language. It's sort of English. Entirely fluent.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations? Not really. When he wants to though, he can pull off a perfect impersonation of the Fon Master. It's useful sometimes.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words? He's pretty much always an impromptu speaker. There's not really many times that he'd prefer time to think on it. Words tend to be stupid.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?Unless he's confused about something like people or emotions, he's a normal speaker. Not eloquent by any means, but definitely articulate.>> top
EMOTIONAL AND MENTAL1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?Sync is ridiculously smart. It's uncanny how fast he can pick up things. He's not a nerd by any means, but when it's something he knows he needs to learn, he tends to pick up the skill stupidly fast.
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate? He's a quick thinker. He can plan out things fairly easily, but when the situation goes south, he's fine with working on the fly, analysing information as he gets it and adjusting accordingly.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical? He's a logical thinker, most of the time. Nothing is done without reason, nothing is done on instinct except when in a fight and even then there's a degree of logic behind his movements. Practical is his nature, there's no time to be idealistic in this world.
The exception is when someone's managed to piss him right off, in which case everything takes a back-seat to the instinct of "punch this stupid idiot in the face".
4. What kind of education has the character had?Formally, none. Everything Sync's learned has been hammered into his brain by Van. There was a few basics that were programmed into him at birth, but everything else has been what Van made him learn.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?Combat combat combat. Van raised him to be a weapon and he is STUPIDLY GOOD AT IT. He's a melee fighter who's ridiculously fast and can take most people down without breaking a sweat. Most people in the Order would instantly reply with his name when asked which God-General they feared the most in a fight.
Sync's also ridiculously smart when it comes to the tactics side of things. Not only the lower soldiers in the Order, but also the other God-Generals will look to him for orders in a situation. His ability to analyse the situation and come up with the best plan is incredible. He's not bad at finding out the information he needs for this too. His speed, ability to hide out of sight, and patience when working on a problem gives him an edge over a hot-tempered soldier. For what he was made to do, he does it so well it's insane.
Despite this, there isn't really anything he'd like to learn about more. It's not his place to want things, after all. He is what he is. A tool to be used.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?Introvert. He prefers to be on his own rather than around others. Sync doesn't do people, they confuse the hell out of him thanks to being a replica, and thus having a hard time understanding and learning about things such as emotion.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered, or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholic? Laid-back or driven?Sync carries a lot of hatred inside him, and it tends to make him mood swing like the child he actually is. He's usually fairly calm, if dismissive and/or cruel to people. But hit on one of his buttons and he can swing into the worst temper you've ever seen. It's one of the few times he will attack without reason. It's hard to tell how he'll act on any given day, unless you're aware that something has annoyed him earlier. Then you're probably not in for a good time.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?Suspicious usually, or dismissive, depending on the situation and/or person. He doesn't care for people, so most of the time they'll get a quick judging before being dismissed as unimportant most of the time. Situations he's always alert and suspicious until he has all the knowledge for how to handle it.
9. Is he more likely to act or to react?Act. He prefers to be doing something, and doesn't like waiting around unless it's crucial to a plan. He knows the value of both, but it's so much easier to be doing something than waiting.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight?Fight. He knows the value of retreating when necessary, but his default is fighting.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?Humour is one of the things that falls under "things he has trouble processing" thanks to being a replica. Most of the time it will fall flat with him, though any kind of joke or prank that's made at the expense of someone else will make him snicker. It's always amusing watching other people suffer.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If so, how does he deal with them?Nothing brought up in canon, though if there is one thing Sync certainly has it's Issues.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?Hahaha well...
- Being born a replica, the fifth of seven. Having no knowledge in his mind aside from pre-set programming of simple things like walking, talking, eating...
- Being told that he was not good enough to be the replacement for his original. He might be better physically, but his fonic abilities were far too weak, and were in fact the worst of all the replicas.
- Mohs deciding that in order to get rid of the replicas that weren't needed (the trash, as Sync began to understand he was) they would be left at the Mount Zaleho volcano. The staff decided to take that a step further and push them into the volcano itself.
- Van came looking for them. Or perhaps for him. Either way, the man called out and seemed impressed with what he could do. He asked a question: "Go or stay?" Sync chose to go, and was given his name.
- Being taught what was needed in order to become the tool/weapon that Van needed. At this time, he began to regret his decision to live. Van learned that Sync wasn't entirely mentally stable, and made it clear that the replica wouldn't be allowed to die until Van had no further use for him.
- Learning what it was like for the seventh replica, the replacement Ion. And finding out what jealousy felt like.
- Thinking that after failing in defeating the Main Party in the core of the planet, that he might finally have a chance to die. And once again being picked up by Van.
He's been through a lot in his short life, and all of it has ended up creating the bitter, unhappy replica child that he is.
14. What does he fear? His greatest fear is just not being left alone to die like he so desperately wants to. His existence is nothing, there is no point in him being alive. He just wants it all to end.
To a lesser extent, he also fears not being useful. He attempts suicide when he feels that his usefulness has run its course, knowing that Van has no time for failures. Being left alive but without purpose or use is not a pleasant thought.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations? The only real aspiration he has is to see the Score destroyed. Nothing else matters, because he himself doesn't matter. If he can do one thing with his pathetic existence, he'd like it to be that.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?Honestly, Sync really doesn't want anyone to get close enough to him to realise just how badly he doesn't understand emotion. It's embarrassing and pathetic, to have such a stupid weakness. Bad enough that some know he can't manage normal people, but emotion itself is another matter entirely.>> top
RELATIONSHIPS1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.Replicas don't have parents as such, but they do have creators. The primary two for Sync, aside from the original Ion himself, are Van and Mohs.
Van is interesting to talk about. While in a sense, most people would think that Sync would owe the man for everything he knows, neither Sync nor Van see it as such. The replica is acutely aware that everything he was taught was for Van's benefit, so he could be used like Van wanted. So there's no reason he would ever really feel like he owed the man for that. He does feel a little thankful for getting the chance to take revenge on the world and Score that created him, but it's only minor. If anything, Sync tends to resent the man. Because no matter what, Van has made it very obvious that he's not allowed to die until Van sees no further use for him. And Sync regrets not letting himself die at Zaleho, at going along with this. He sees no real reason to be alive, and the fact Van will not let him die is annoying as hell.
As for Mohs...well. The man was the one who ordered the replicas of Ion disposed of in Mount Zaleho to begin with. Sync has never forgiven him for that, and hates that a lot of his time was spent having to work with him, keeping Mohs from learning what Van's actual plan was. When Mohs got Dist to inject him with Seventh Fonons, it was with the most perverse pleasure that Sync watched him deteriorate in body and mind, until eventually he went insane. It was the most wonderful irony.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is their relationship like? One could consider the other Ion replicas his siblings. He doesn't really care much for the first four and the sixth, almost envying the ones that got to die in Zaleho and not caring for Mohs' pet.
The seventh though is interesting. Sync dislikes Ion immensely, for several reasons. He is insanely jealous that Ion was the one who was chosen to be the replacement, hating that Ion was needed and wanted while Sync was thrown aside. Ion might not be 'free', but he's treated with respect by the people, cared for and protected by his guardians. Meanwhile Sync was trash to be thrown aside, and was only alive to be used by Van; he might have been free, but no one cared about him. And then to top it all off Ion actually got to die, even if it was like dog, bound to the fate the Score had set. Ion got everything that Sync wanted, even if he'd never admit it to himself. It's an ugly jealousy and hatred.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?Nope.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?Sync doesn't do that family relationship bullshit.
5. Who is the character's best friend? How did they meet? You're kidding, right? Sync has no one.
6. Does he have other close friends?See above.
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?Sync does not do people. Outside of his job, in which case there's generally always a purpose to interacting with someone, he hates talking to others. He doesn't get people. He doesn't understand why they do what they do, with being kind and caring. It doesn't make sense. Why give a damn about someone you don't even know? Why risk being nice to someone who could be an enemy so easily? It doesn't make any sense to him at all.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?Neither.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?Forever single.
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?Nope.
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?N/A
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?Hahaha nope. He barely knows this is even a thing outside of, like. Words.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If so, how does he relate to them? If not, does he want any?Nope and nope.
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?Rivals not so much. Enemies, only like, ALL OF THEM. He has actual enemies in the form of the Main Party, he has enemies in that he doesn't trust anyone, not even some of his allies. It's easier to see everyone as a potential enemy.>> top
BELIEFS1. Do you know your character's astrological sign? How well does he fit the type?Unfortunately I do not, and Auldrant runs on weird not-Earth years anyway.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?Hell fucking no. The religion of Auldrant revolves around the Score, the thing he wants nothing more than to destroy. He hates it.
3. Does this character have a personal code of ethics or morals? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?Not really. If there's one thing Sync is severely lacking in it's a moral compass.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?Intolerant. He has no time for idiots who believe in things like higher powers. Especially the Score.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational, or does he have a good reason for them? The Score is really fucking stupid and people who rely on it are even more so. He does sort of have a good reason for it, given it was the reason he was born in the first place, a fact that he absolutely hates, so.>> top
DAILY LIFE1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt? He's fairly well off, given his status. But at the same time it means very little to him.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?Sync is a goddamn God-General, one of the highest positions in the entire Order of Lorelei, in charge of the Fifth Division. He's also Chief of Staff, mostly because of his tactical knowledge. Also possibly because Van's an ass like that. At any rate, social status wise, there's only really a few people in the world higher than he is, nobility of the kingdoms not included.
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others? He has a room in the cathedral in Daath, but there's no real attachment to it. 'Home' is just another word. It's a place where he can crash and generally not be bothered by anyone. That's about it.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?Nothing. The idea of owning things is sort of foreign to him. There isn't any real need for anything more than what he needs to keep going.
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?As Chief of Staff, he's in charge of making sure everyone in the Order goes where they need to be in order to carry out their orders, and Van's plan. He doesn't entirely like it, because he has to deal with entirely too many idiots in the process, but there is a sort of satisfaction with working out tactical situations and making sure things go as they should.
As a God-General, he tends to be assigned missions of higher importance than most of the Order. Anything that involves beating the hell out of someone is always appreciated as stress relief. Keeping an eye on Asch was one of his missions at one point, which he didn't overly like, but sort of turned into a game of "How long until the Bloody notices him" that was kind of enjoyable at times. Until Asch realised he wouldn't go into Zaleho, at any rate.
Overall, his job is something to do. He neither overly likes it, or greatly dislikes it. It's just a part of his life.
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?Nothing. He literally does not have any. It's hard to say if it's because as a replica, he's less likely to pick up on something like that, or simply because Van has run him ragged since his birth. Free time is a myth, one that he doesn't get to indulge in.
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?Sync eats fairly normally. He might miss a meal or two thanks to missions sometimes, but it's not regular enough to be a problem. He doesn't favour or avoid any particular kind of food, but pity the fool who steals from his plate in the cafeteria, because he does like it spicy, and it's enough to make most people attempt to drown themselves in water when they try.>> top
